Workshop tie & dye at Baan Dek Dee

Enfants des Minorités : Atelier teinture par nouage This August 6, on the initiative of a couple of volunteers from our association and thanks to the expertise of an expert in the field, a workshop “tie-dyeing”  was organized and brought together no less than sixty people, including forty children. Everyone could leave with his little creation !!!

So Khun Premrudee Kullasu,  an expert quilter in dyeing cloth, which made us the pleasure of coming voluntarily transmit some techniques of expertise at the Center Baan Dek Dee we support now for 2 years.

The workshop was held from 9 am to noon, flanked by a dozen volunteers, and was followed by a meal – fully funded by a Paris donor Malinee Helderlé – during which the children ate their first hamburger (yes, but gourmet !!), expertly prepared by Chef of the Akyra hotel in Chiang Mai.

During the workshop, the children were divided into 4 groups, each group being framed by 1 or 2 accompanying adults – volunteers.

A presentation on the materials used, the different types of knotting, and a brief history was followed by a move to the Action !! All children were able to experience all knotting, soaking, drying and actually see the results!

People living in Chiang Mai, visitors or residents, were joined at the workshop by the communication made around this event, some even with their children. This allowed fine exchanges and donations.

The workshop was organized under the initiative of Nune and Olivier Brepson, who support the center for some me already.  They are responsible for all aspects of this project. After the meal, games were organized and small gifts prepared by European children who participated, were offered to the children center.

The aim of the workshop was focused on several levels:

• Teaching children through experience and play, new knowledge.

• Collect donations, although there was no obligation to give, the collected donations amounted to  22,300 baht  (about € 575)  and each child is left with his dyed fabric made by him.

• Create social ties.

We are delighted that such meetings can take place, and are motivated to organize more such workshops to continue to sensitize people to the fate of these children, but always in a positive spirit !!!

A big thank you to all participants and volunteers to this day !
