Home of Ethnic Students

Enfants des minorités : Home of Ethnic Students, ThaïlandeThe center Home of Ethnic Students (also named “Minority Student Home“) is located in a village called Sanjuruen , 5 km from Chiang Rai.

This center was established in 2015 by  Mr Supamit Porchai, who  belongs to the minority ethnic Lahu . This is because it has not had the opportunity to study when he was young he decided to help the children and try to provide them a good education.

20 children live here, 17 boys and 3 girls , aged between 7 and 19 years. They come from areas near the Thai-Burma border, specifically of  2 villages: Mae FAAH-Luang Poo and Hauai Choom.

The children are from minority Lahu and Akha and come from poor families of deceased parents or having an addiction to drugs.

They all go to school to school Sa-Ha-Saad, located 5 km from the center.

2 people only manage this center today, Mr Supramit and his wife, who bear all the costs themselves, on their personal budget, without any help; even if they sometimes receive donations of vegetables or rice from some families or the villagers.

Mr Supramit is an entrepreneur and has a coffee plantation. His wife works “the little coffee shop” in Chiang Rai City.

Both work mostly the day and return at night to take care of children returning from school. The Weekend and school holidays, at least one of them remain with the children, and sometimes friends come help. They obviously can not recruit staff, lack of resources.

Suffice to say that this new place, alas essential space to collect and protect children, obviously having problems, besides other children want to come to live (3 newcomers already since last year).

In October 2015, EDM Thailand began to help by delivering one tonne of organic brown rice.

In 2016, we signed a partnership contract. Home of Ethnic Students  between therefore officially in project EDM Thailand.

We hope to continue to help them as much as possible .
