Baan Mana

Enfants des minorités : Centre Baan Mana, Khun Tchat et sa femme

Baan Mana was created 2 years ago by Khun Chat and his wife. It supports today 41 children, all from Lahoo ethnicity, and mostly under the age of 10 years.

It was in 2014, when the situation became really hard for this structure, with less and less money for food and the center about to close, we met Khun Chat and his wife.

Baan Mana is not formalized and «Enfants de Minorités» need to create his own foundation in Thailand, we decided to work together and, therefore, Baan Mana become a branch of «Enfants des minorités foundation».

The formalization process began in February 2015.

When he was a child, Khun Chat was considered a child at risk, and he spent his childhood in an orphanage or the staff did not deliver enough affection to children and kept them away from their village and their families.

In adulthood, Khun Chat, returned to his village to Huaymasang near Doi Chang, and he became the leader. 1300 people live here.

Then he decided to help at-risk children from his village and around to prevent their uprooting a family.

With the help of the inhabitants, they built bamboo houses for children to enter the village.

For 2 years, Khun Chat covered all expenses of the center with his own money.

Many children come from families in difficulties, most parents have drug addiction.

The school is not far from the center. This is also why the center was created here.

They are only 3 people working on it at the moment: 2 people that support children and watch over them and one teacher who teaches them the language Lahoo every night. Khun Chat and his wife help much as they can.

Inside the center, there is a pig farm, which, in addition to its educational aspect, sell a few animals and so earn some money.

They also have a small garden where they grow vegetables.
